What is an Agriturismo? (GUIDE AND RECOMMENDATIONS)
Food in Sardinia is amazing. Of course it is, it's part of Italy. But as with many regions of Italy, it has its own local twist and style. One of the most famous food experiences in Sardinia is the Agriturismo. So what exactly is Agriturismo? We break it down below.
What is an Agriturismo?
Agriturismo (literally "farm tourism", or "farm stay") is a farm which has converted part of its operations to hospitality; usually in the form of accommodations or a restaurant.
What kind of cuisine is Agriturismo?
70% of the produce served in an Agriturismo must come from the farm it's located on, so expect a wide range of vegetables and roasted meats.
What food do you get at Agriturismo?
One of the highlights of the Agriturismo experience is the porcheddu (suckling pig), but look out for cheeses (pecorino), malloreddus (pasta gnochetti) and of course the famous Sardinian flatbread, carasau. All of the food will be flavoured with local herbs, honey, and staples like lemon and semolina.
